Braces

Q.   What is the ideal age for braces treatment for my child?

A.    There is no ideal age as such braces can be implemented for children as young as 7-8 years. A regular visit to a dentist can help is early detection of braces treatment.

Q.   Is putting braces painful? How long does it take to put braces?

A.   There may be discomfort for 4-5 days when the wire requires changing as that time the maximum tooth shifting occurs. There may be no pain after this initial process. It may take up to 1-2 years depending on the tooth structure of your child for braces treatment.

Q.   Is extraction a natural process during braces treatment?

A.   Yes, it is completely normal to extract a tooth during orthodontic procedures. After the complete treatment, space would be filled and appear in sync with your other teeth.   

Q.   Would eating become problematic after braces?

A.   Try to avoid food that is hard to chew and sticky on the teeth. Other than this you should face no problems.

Q.   Would braces lead to a migraine or eyesight problem?

A.  No. This is a common misconception, however, teeth nerves are completely separate from your eyes, so you should face no issues at all.

Root Canal

Q.   Is root canal painful?

A.   No, when local anaesthesia is given, the procedure is pain free.

Q.   Why is the crown necessary after root canal?

A.  After root canal Rx, the tooth becomes brittle and can tend to break, but with crowns placed the tooth gets safeguarded from breakage/ fracture.

Q.  Can root canal be detected before the root swell?

A.   Yes, a regular visit to the dentist can help detect root canal in the early stages. You may even prevent it from developing during the cavity period with the help of your dentist.

Q.  Will the extraction of wisdom tooth be painful?

A.    No, not exactly. It is done under local anaesthesia and it is painless during the procedure. However, there is mid to moderate discomfort for 2-4 days after the extraction.

Q.   Is implant a good option to replace a tooth?

A.  Yes, but it takes 4-4.5 months to complete the procedure.

Q.   Cast partial denture is a good option to replace the tooth?

A.  Yes, in poor gum health it is a good option and in elderly patient.

Q.   What is the difference between an implant and a bridge?

A.   A bridge takes the support of the adjacent teeth to support an artificial tooth that covers the gap in your teeth. On the other hand, dental implants are made from titanium and fixed like a root in your jaw, the artificial tooth is placed on the implant.

Q.   What is the lifespan of implants?

A.   Implants can last for a lifetime if proper care is taken.

Q.   Is there any chance of implant failure?

A.   It is extremely rare for an implant to fail. However, it may happen due to smoking during the healing period or improper care. The implant can be replaced during this period.

Cleaning/Scaling

Q.   How often should I visit a dentist for teeth cleaning?

A.   You should visit a dentist for cleaning after every 6-8 months.

Q.   Is cleaning harmful to my teeth?

A.   Plaque and calculus can cause severe gum diseases thus cleaning is extremely important. Scaling causes vibrations that can remove plaque and calculus to save your teeth from decay.   

Q.   Will there be any effect on my tooth structure after cleaning?

A.   Ultrasonic vibrations used by dentists today do not cause any damage to the enamel of your teeth, so you can be assured about your teeth.

Q.   What type of brush should I use for cleaning?

A.   You should use a brush with soft bristles.

Q.   How often should I brush my teeth?

A. Twice is a day should be sufficient. You must also rinse your mouth after having meals.
